What Is The ACT

The ACT is a college preparation test that is required by nearly every college and university. Similar to the SAT, the ACT gives colleges and universities an idea of which students are prepared to do college level work and which students are not. The ACT has four sections including a writing section. Many incoming college freshman are deficient in writing skills and how well or how poorly a student does on the ACT writing section can help a school determine if a student will need remedial help in writing. The actual ACT test is not done on a computer, it’s a paper test completed with a number 2 pencil. While most graduate tests are administered on a computer because some schools don’t have the kind of technology programs that other schools have administrators can’t assume that a high school student will be familiar enough with a computer to take the ACT test on computer.

ACT Preparation Doesn’t Have To Be Expensive

ACT test scores are very important to colleges. ACT testing is done to help colleges decide what students they want to accept. Because ACT scores can make or break a students ability to get into a good college students start preparing for the ACT sometimes years in advance. The official ACT website has a section for ACT test registration that can be completed by a student’s parent or guardian along with a list of ACT test dates and testing center locations. In addition to the informational sections of the official ACT website there are sections containing information for students including ACT tips, a list of items to bring to the test center the day of the ACT exam, and loads of free ACT test preparation materials like free ACT practice tests, sample questions, and other tools to help students build the vocabulary and logic and math skills they will need to get high ACT scores. There is also a writing help section to help students prepare for the writing section of the ACT and sample essay topics and questions that will help prepare students for the ACT test. Because getting high ACT tests scores is so important many parents will enroll their high school age children in ACT prep classes held at tutoring centers but it is possible to prepare for the ACT without spending a fortune. Groups of students can work together with the free ACT practice material provided on the ACT website to help each other prepare for the ACT.
