Teaching ESL
Teaching English as a Second Language, or ESL, is a rapidly growing career path. Many people in the US and abroad want to learn how to speak English as a second language, and there are not enough trained teachers to teach them all. Immigrants desperately need to learn conversational English as well as business English so that they can function and work in American society. ESL jobs are available all around the world. For people who would love to live in another country but worry about what jobs they would qualified for teaching ESL can be the perfect answer. Usually people go abroad to teach ESL for a year or two and get the experience of living somewhere else and then they return to the US. There are plenty of jobs teaching ESL available in the US as well. Many cities have programs for immigrants and for other citizens who never learned English that will teach them basic conversational English and some Business English so that they can get work. It’s hard for immigrants who don’t know English to adjust to the US where most signs and documents are only available in English. Students in American schools who speak another language at home might benefit from ESL tutoring to make sure that they develop the English skills they will need to function in American society.
Who Is Qualified To Teach English As A Second Language
Different companies want their teachers to have different credentials but at the most basic level any native English speaker is qualified to teach ESL. It’s not necessary to know how to speak another language in order to teach ESL. There are ESL lesson plans and teaching aides that can help someone who speaks English but no other language learn how to teach children or adults ESL. Teaching English as a second language can be a very rewarding career and can be a great way to see the world. Many ESL teachers go abroad to other countries and work teaching ESL to children in school or teach ESL and Business English to adults who want to do business with English speaking countries.
